Working some exercise into the routine is a great way to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but there’s something about the great outdoors that is a lot better at motivating you than cold machines at the gym. The gym certainly has its time and its place, but it’s always a good time for fresh air and natural scenery. If you agree, consider looking at our apartments near the Burke-Gilman Bike Trail. Henry Apartments are just 3.6 miles, or an 11-minute drive from where this 20-mile multi-use recreational trail begins.

Starting at 11th Avenue NW in Ballard and following along the Lake Washington Ship Canal and north along Lake Washington, the Burke-Gilman Bike Trail is actually a rail trail. Disused railway track in an abandoned Seattle, Lake Shore, and Eastern Railway corridor has been converted into a path for walking and cycling. It was one of the first trails of this kind in the country, and its success was the springboard for others. This trail makes up a large part of the 90 miles of bike routes in Seattle and the 175 miles’ worth of trails in the entire King County Trails System. The Burke-Gilman Trail winds through Ballard, Fremont, Northlake, the University District, Lake District, Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville, and Redmond.

Along the way, you’ll see a little bit of everything. There’s Golden Gardens Park, which is serene and picturesque. You’ll also wind up close to Peddler Brewing company, which is a microbrewery with indoor bike parking, a repair station, and a pump. One stretch of the trail follows the Fremont Canal, which connects Puget Sound to Lake Union. Take a small detour off the trail for some refreshment, or stay right on the trail and simply watch the boat traffic. Gas Works Park is pretty spectacular if you are looking to take some cool photos, and the U District and the University of Washington offer affordable eats and some beautiful scenery. Husky Stadium can be seen from the trail, and Rainier Vista boasts an incredible view of Mt. Rainier (on clear days). The list of sights goes on and on, and if you find yourself too far from home, just hop a bus back! Apartments near the Burke-Gilman Bike Trail mean proximity to some unique activity!

The great thing about this particular trail is that you can travel it over and over, and still see something different. It’s a great way to spend some time outdoors with friends and visitors, but also the perfect way to unwind after a stressful week.
